András Áron & the Black Circle Orchestra / HEY JUNE!

András ‘Apey' Áron is one of the most well-known and most versatile songwriter-performers and bandleaders in Hungary. His name might be familiar from his work in the acclaimed, influential Hungarian rock and metal bands LAZARVS, Apey & the Pea, Trillion and - many years ago - Neck Sprain.

Current events

Áron released his first acoustic, folk-based solo record in 2010, before five more records of a similar vein that have contained country, Americana, folk and blues music. In 2020, he created a large-scale band project with the Black Circle Orchestra, which features a series of well-known musicians and adds greater weight and colour to his songs - just as the group will seek to do for this concert, too.

With his band Apey & the Pea, András Áron was a major figure on the Hungarian cultural scene in the 2010s, though today the group performs under the name LAZARVS. Áron, the frontman, has also released acoustic solo demos, a full-length album (Feathers, Black Flowers, which reflected on his childhood) and an EP, before firmly establishing his dual career in 2016 with his mature second solo album, Foxes. In 2019, Áron was awarded the title of Junior Songwriter of the Year for his outstanding songwriting and versatile sound. Áron created the Black Circle Orchestra after the release of his fourth solo LP in 2020, Book of Changes, partly in order to make live recordings of the songs from the record (which later became a second album, Changes). The Black Circle Orchestra is completed by singer Barbara Schoblocher and keyboard player Máté Pénzes from the band Blahalouisiana, The Qualitons group's rhythm section, Ernő Hock and Levente Boros, and The Pontiac's guitarist, Péter Kiss. The group will also perform material from Apey's latest solo album, The Moment, recorded in 2023 with the Nashville-born Derek Garten as the star producer.
