The second evening of the Ring of the Nibelung tetralogy is the most popular of the four works: Die Walküre captivates audiences with deservedly beloved opera hits like Siegmund's Spring Song from Act 1 and, from the third act, the Ride of the Valkyries, as well as Wotan's Farewell and the Magic Fire Music. The plot unfolds with extraordinary power, drawing the audience into the passions of the characters with inexorable force. One thing is certain - no one could possibly be indifferent to the fate of the doomed lovers Siegmund and Sieglinde.

One of the most exciting aspects of Müpa Budapest's performances of Wagnerian works is the relationship between permanence and change. The concept behind the productions is fully established and constant. However, over the past years, within the framework of this fixed idea, various details have been reimagined. Another permanent feature is the conducting method - one combining humanism with perfectionism - of music director Ádám Fischer. Nevertheless, it is precisely this characteristic exigency of his that helps him find new aspects to bring to the surface from the work's inexhaustible riches each year. Also offering a thrilling mixture of permanence and change, of course, are the shifts in emphasis that result from trying out new singers in various roles each year and retaining past veterans in others. Appearing as Siegmund in the current production is Australian heldentenor Stuart Skelton, who last took on the role here in 2019. With her amazing endurance as Brünnhilde, Iréne Theorin is also a highly familiar member of the team. There will, however, be a new Hunding this time in the person of Albert Dohmen, who sang Alberich at Bayreuth, and we will also get to welcome Günther Groissböck as a new Wotan.
