Season Ticket ’Variations on Chamber Music’
COMPLEMENTARY. PLAY. APOTHEOSIS.
This March concert of the ‘Variations Series’ features a baroque and classical music programme. Boccherini’s ‘Guitar Quintet’ will be performed on harp and four strings, while Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Trio Sonata’ will be performed in an arrangement by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. A real speciality will be Cherubini’s ‘String Quartet No. 1’, which was one of the composer’s most popular chamber pieces, and constituted a fundamental part of any musical repertoire in the 19th century. Perhaps this is because this chamber piece exhibited a tone radically different from that of the greatest works of the genre, such as those composed by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. And, another reason for this could be that Cherubini’s work featured a kind of operatic dramaticality.
