The Budapest Strings ensemble (Chamber Orchestra) was founded in 1977 by graduate students at the Liszt Academy. Their first success came few years later, as they has been awarded the Belgrad International Chamber
Competition Prize in 1982.
Since then The Budapest Strings has won several prices, the Bartók–Pásztory prize in 2001 (Hungary's highest award for the musical profession), the Art Prize given by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2007, the Artisjus Prize in 2008. Its outstanding talent has been recognized by numerous important publications and it belongs among the ranks of the leading musical ensembles of Hungary, enjoying a high standing.
The Budapest Strings plays the whole string orchestra repertoire, includes early music, the classic masterworks, and the 19th century music as well. They play regularly transcriptions, other chamber music pieces, string quartets, which fit well with the sound of their string ensemble. The orchestra stands high as a performer of 20th century music, and performs works by contemporary composers, several of which have been dedicated to the orchestra.
