Said Péter Eötvös of his own musical thinking and that of György Ligeti: “We emphasize and articulate in the same way, we think in a similar harmonic system, though within that we each have our own system, of course, and the two are dissimilar. It is easy to see, however, that Bartók’s articulation and harmonic thinking were our breeding ground, and that each of us crafted his own world from it.”

In 2023, the international music world will celebrate the 100th birthday of György Ligeti, whose rich and colourful oeuvre continues to be fresh, inspiring and scintillating. At their Ligeti concert, the Klangforum Wien, which is a pioneer in the performance of new music, and Péter Eötvös will present four concerti. Each embodies a very different musical world, but all of them are brilliantly written and compelling pieces that, for all their complexity, have an immediate impact on both the performer and the audience. The featured players are the leading soloists of the Hungarian scene, Barnabás Kelemen, László Fenyő and Zoltán Fejérvári.

This concert of the Bartók Spring is presented by Müpa Budapest as a joint event with Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival.
